Rules

Materials

x1 standard deck of playing cards (remove jokers)

Objective

Collect as many pastry dishes as possible by bidding on the most valuable recipe cards.

Setup

  1. Separate the playing cards into four suits.
  2. One player plays diamonds, the other spades. These are each players’ recipe cards. Players should not show their opponent their hand.
  3. Hearts and clubs are placed face down in two piles in the center of the table. These are the ingredient cards.

Bidding

  1. At the start of each round, one card from each ingredient card pile (hearts and clubs) is placed face up. Players each produce one card from their hand to bid on both ingredient cards (A = 1, K = 13). The player that bids the highest takes both cards. Both recipe cards are discarded.
    1. In the event of a tie: if both players agree to continue bidding, place one more card from each ingredient card pile face up. Again, players repeat the bidding process. The player that bids the highest the second time wins all four ingredient cards. This can be repeated per tie.

Acquiring a dish

  1. Players need three two ingredient cards and one recipe card to make a dish. Both ingredient cards must be the same color and number. The player will place them face down on the table side by side. The remaining recipe card is placed face-up on top of the two cards. The higher the number on the recipe card, the more points the player wins for the dish. If a player does not meet the above criteria to make a dish, won cards are placed to the side in a leftover pile.
  2. Dishes can be created at any time, but cannot be changed once made. Players are not required to make dishes right away.

Winning the game

  1. Bidding ends when one player runs out of cards. The remaining ingredient cards are distributed to each player (hearts to spades, clubs to diamonds). If a player can match any of the new ingredient cards to their leftover recipe cards, they can make a leftover dish (color and number must still match). Leftover dishes are worth half the amount of points.
  2. The player with the most points wins the game.
